The Nigeria Market
The Nigerian market for mobile communications consist of two sections.
The larger GSM operators all have the size and volume to deal directly with carrier around the globe. Their size also allow them to effective sell access to their network. This fact makes it possible to reach these networks from almost anywhere in the world.
The smaller Tier-2 operators are not individually large enough have the same success in distributing their routes internationally. As a result their networks are unreachable from key networks in many important markets in the world including western europe and north america.
The International Perspective
The perspective of the trans-national carriers is that since 80% of the Nigerian market is reachable via 3 interconnects, it's not worth adding another 10 interconnects to reach the remaining end-users. As a result the Tier-2 operators loose substantial international inbound termination revenues.
How VoIP-X Benefits
VoIP-X is currently working with all the Tier-2 operators to aggregate access to their networks in just one interconnect. By allowing VoIP-X to distribute their routes together in one bundle, the operators get access to networks that they individually would otherwise have been too small to interconnect with. This will in turn increases the revenue earned from termination
